If you hover over that button, one of the options will be “get notifications.” Click this and make sure it’s checked. When this option is enabled, you will get a Facebook notification when that user posts something new. Sometimes it will be on a slight delay – I’ve seen up to 15 minutes of delay before – but it’s not typical.

Go to any post you want to get notifications from. Click on the three-dotted button above the post. Select ‘Turn on notifications for this post’ from the drop-down menu. Now you will receive notifications when there is a new comment on the post.

To turn on notifications for a friend, you can add them to your Close Friends list. To adjust notifications for a Page: Click in the top left of any page on Facebook. Enter the name of the Page and choose from the results.

To adjust your Notifications setting: 1- Click at the top-right corner and select Settings. 2- Click Notifications on the left. You can adjust what types of Notifications to get on Facebook.

For more than 250 members, you’ll get a notification any time a Friend posts, or Facebook feels like sending you one. If you’re part of an active group, this can mean a dozen or more notifications a day. Here’s how to sort that out. Open Facebook, head to the offending group and click on Notifications.

Even if you comment on a mutual friend's photo and if the other friend is following that post, he'll receive notificationl. The best way to entirely hide from those friends is to un friend or may be block them on facebook.

By default, you get a notification when people on your Close Friends list post new content (status update, link, photo, etc.). There's a setting to turn this off. You're an inactive user with less than 10 friends. You only get notified via email and you can opt out of this also.

Tap Friends. It’s near the bottom-left corner of your friend’s profile photo. Tap Edit Friend Lists. A list of your friend lists will appear. Tap Acquaintances. Now that your friend is added to this list, you will no longer receive notifications of their posts and actions on Facebook. Tap Done.
